About the Course

A calm, relaxed and fun approach removes any stress that a young child may be feeling.

Every child is encouraged and supported so they gain confidence in their ability enabling them to fulfil their potential both academically and socially.

Children enjoy each session and benefit hugely by developing new friendships, a good collaborative work ethic, as well as skills to support one and other or discuss topics.

At Francesca Tutoring I aim to:

  1. Build confidence in your child so they can approach new topics and solve problems independently with increased ease.
  2. Regular structured sessions to practise, revise and learn new skills.
  3. Embedded exam techniques and time management skills

What does the course cover?

The course is designed to support children not only through the preparation in Year 5, and their exam technique for one special day but to build the correct foundations and keep confidence high beyond the exam too.

My 11 Plus course guarantees your child will get the practice and revision they need to develop a strong foundation of skills in maths and literacy, enabling them to tackle the content of the exams confidently.

Whilst I will always accept children who wish to join one of my courses at any time, I thoroughly recommend attending from the start; this way your child will get the knowledge they need at the right pace.

11 Plus Maths Tuition

Attacking questions under timed conditions is the most challenging part of the maths paper. That is why it is crucial that your child’s mental arithmetic, exam technique and speed accuracy are perfected.

The exams test a range of topics that are not covered in as much depth at school so good preparation and practice of these new skills is essential. This includes developing your child’s maths knowledge, problem solving skills and understanding of how to approach the maths paper. I will ensure that your child enters into their exam feeling fearless and knowing exactly what to expect.

‍11 Plus English Tuition

As English is such a huge part of the school curriculum, your child will certainly be familiar with many of the topics covered in the 11+ English exams, however the exams will include more challenging questions for each area.

The 11 Plus English test will challenge your child’s understanding of written texts, their grammar, punctuation and spelling skills and how they compose a written task. Reading regularly will have a significant impact on your child’s overall English ability. Planning, writing and editing their own work is another excellent technique for your child to practice their spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Reasoning Tuition.

Verbal reasoning is included in exam papers for selective schools in Kent and relies on an extensive vocabulary that reaches far beyond what is expected in the Year 5 primary curriculum. Verbal reasoning skills are not normally taught at school, I give children the strategies needed to confidently undertake these types of questions.

Non-verbal reasoning papers are designed to assess an ability to analyse visual information and solve problems by using visual logic. Non-verbal reasoning is also not usually taught in school. The questions involve code, pattern and shape sequences, where children will be asked to determine how they link to each other.

I will take Year 5 children who wish to consolidate learning, re-visit areas that they are less familiar or confident with or work towards a personal goal that is not the 11+. I don’t assess children before they start and I provide feedback marking as well as regular conversations with parents to discuss progress and plan ahead.
